Yorkshire Choice Awards announces Simon on the Streets in Leeds as charity partner for 2020 ceremony

The 2020 Yorkshire Choice Awards has revealed that its chosen charity partner of the year will be homelessness charity Simon on the Streets.

The charity, which offers support to people in Leeds, Bradford and Huddersfield will benefit from funds raised at the awards evening ceremony. Now entering its fifth year, the awards sees the public vote for the winners from a shortlist chosen from more than 300 nominees across 12 categories in business, sport, inspiration and fundraising.

Previous years has seen thousands of pounds raised for charities including St Gemma’s Hospice, The Danny Jones Defibrillator Fund, Martin House Children’s Hospice and Bethany’s Smile.

The ceremony on March 14 at the Leeds United’s Elland Road will be attended by 800 guests. The funds are raised by a raffle, live and silent auctions with prizes donated from companies across the region. All funds will go towards Simon on the Streets’ essential work in the region, which includes street-based support for people affected by homelessness.

Melanie Malcolm, co-founder of Yorkshire Choice Awards, said: “Each year we have hundreds of applications from charities to become the charity partner. As Simon on the Streets recently celebrated its 20th anniversary year we thought it would be a good year to support with their fundraising activities. We are really hoping to make a difference this year for Simon on the Streets: hopefully our fundraising can give someone hope and support to turn their life around.”

Simon on the Streets’ development manager Fahad Khan added: “We’re really grateful to Yorkshire Choice Awards for selecting Simon on the Streets as this year’s charity partner for the largest publicly voted awards celebration in the region. The awareness and funds raised will go a long way in helping us with our work to support entrenched rough sleepers across West Yorkshire.”
