Yorkshire Heroes Wanted

With just weeks until The Yorkshire Choice Awards close nominations, time is running out for submissions from those hoping to be considered for one of the prestigious accolades.

Celebrating achievement in Yorkshire, all categories cover a wide range of skill sets and backgrounds but they all have one thing in common – the will to achieve.

This year’s chosen charity will be Bethany’s Smile. Bethany Hare is the remarkable young lady behind the charity and at just 19 years old oouzes the inspiration and credibility they seek from other Yorkshire folk.

Bethany is aiming to raise over £300,000 to build Smile Cottage, where families can go and spend quality time together when they are faced with the news of a short life expectancy/terminal illness.

Smile Cottage is in addition to Bethany’s Smile supporting families with other things such as laptops, wheelchairs, desks and chairs for bedrooms so school work can continue at home, roof boxes to allow easier travel when lots of equipment is required on holidays and also special travel insurance. Bethany’s Smile is one of the very few charities where every penny goes to the cause due to having no staff and no overheads.

After meeting Bethany at the Yorkshire Choice Awards when she sang for this year’s Yorkshire heroes, co-founders Jo Maltby and Melanie Malcolm said ‘We were absolutely amazed that someone so young could possess such selflessness. Bethany is a credit to our future generations and someone we just had to get behind and support’.

The Awards are searching for both inspirational people and businesses but nominations close 30th November 2018. A public vote will commence during December, which will decide the ultimate winners.
