The Yorkshire Choice Awards are set to celebrate outstanding achievement throughout Yorkshire and have to date received a staggering 117,306 votes, which is climbing rapidly every day.

Co-Founders, Jo Maltby and Melanie Malcolm both have a passion for Yorkshire businesses and people and are delighted at the attention unsung heroes are receiving throughout Yorkshire.

The pair were delighted when Leeds-based supermarket, Asda agreed to be headline sponsors. Keen supporters of their county, Matthew Jenkinson from Asda’s Local Marketing team said “Asda are delighted to be sponsoring this year’s Yorkshire Choice Awards. We’re really proud of our Yorkshire roots and it’s great to be able to celebrate the inspirational people and businesses that make our county so special

This year sees the introduction of the Awards top accolade of the evening, The Kate Granger Award for Outstanding Achievement. Despite Kate Granger’s own illness, she was not afraid to inspire others with her vibrant personality, determination and dreams to raise awareness of better patient care.

The Award has been introduced in memory of Kate who sadly passed away following 5 years with a rare and aggressive cancer in July last year. Since Kate’s death, her husband, Chris Pointon has been determined to carry on keeping her memory alive.

Chris Pointon, Asda Colleague and Husband to the late Kate Granger said “It’s going to be a night of mixed emotions as I get to present the “Kate Granger Award” for outstanding contribution. Kate is the person in this world that inspires me the most and it’s an honor to have another award named after her in the county she adored. Kate has also been nominated for an award in two categories which makes me incredibly proud. I’d like to sincerely thank Asda for their continued support to me personally and with the sponsorship of this event that is helping to keep Kate’s legacy going. Let’s make it an amazing night recognising the people and businesses of our great county.

You choose the winners through a people’s vote which closes on 1st March, so there is still plenty of time to support your local champions. For more information on voting and how to get you tickets to attend the evening visit www.yorkshirechoiceawards.co.uk
