Yorkshire Awards Recognise Dr Kate Granger’s Achievements with New Award

The Yorkshire Choice Awards, which recognise local people and organisations that are an inspiration in their field, is back for a second year and nominations are now open.

This year’s charity partner is The Danny Jones Defibrillator Fund, and co-founders, Jo Maltby (#wetherbyhour) and Melanie Malcolm (Yorkshire Ladies Links) hope to raise money for equipment that could save lives at rugby clubs across the UK.

This year also sees the introduction of the Kate Granger Award for Outstanding Achievement. Dr Kate Granger was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer in 2011 at the age of 29. She captured the attention of the nation by writing about her experiences with the illness as an NHS patient. Kate launched her #HelloMyNameIs campaign to encourage medical workers to introduce themselves after her own experiences as a patient. She inspired others with her vibrant personality, determination and dreams to raise awareness of better patient care.

These are people’s choice awards. People nominate and pick the winners. You can nominate online at www.yorkshirechoiceawards.co.uk – just choose the relevant category and answer the questions. Nominations close in October. The Award Ceremony will take place at The Centenary Pavilions at Leeds United on 1st April 2017. The nominees, their friends and family will be invited to attend and will be joined by local celebrities and media.
