Two charity fundraisers have been nominated in the Yorkshire Choice Awards, which celebrate inspirational people and businesses.

Adam Alderson, from Preston-under-Scar, has been nominated for two awards.

Adam, who underwent a gruelling operation to remove eight of his abdominal organs after contracting a rare form of cancer, rode 2,000 miles from Barcelona through Europe and across the sea to Wensleydale with his wife Laura on a monkey bike, in a bid to raise the profile of organ transplant.

The challenge raised almost £3,000 for the Pelican Foundation, which supports people with bowel, liver, prostate and bladder cancers by improving precision surgery.

It came after Adam, Laura and two friends competed in the Mongol Rally as the Yorkshire Yaks.

The challenge saw them drive 10,000-mile trip from the UK to Mongolia in two old Suzuki Jimny 4x4s.

Adam has been nominated for two Yorkshire Choice Awards; The Kate Granger Outstanding Contribution Award and the Inspirational Individual of the Year for his continued efforts.

Another local nominee is Tanya Woodcock, from Harmby, who has been nominated in the Local Fundraiser of the Year category.

Tanya has helped raise thousands of pounds for the Candlelighters children’s charity, which supports children with cancer and their families.

In 2018, after months of visits to the doctors, Tanya and husband Ian’s daughter Emily was diagnosed with infant acute lymphoblastic leukaemia aged just nine months.

Since then she has been undergoing treatment at the Leeds Children’s Hospital.

Thankfully, Emily has been responding extremely well and is making good progress.

Tanya has launched fundraising group Team Emily to spearhead the fundraising drive.

The Yorkshire Choice Awards were founded by Melanie Malcolm and Jo Maltby in a bid to recognise and raise the awareness of inspirational local people and independent businesses.
