Cleckheaton firm, LMB Group, wins at Yorkshire Choice Awards 2019

A CLECKHEATON firm is among the winners at the Yorkshire Choice Awards.

Mechanical, plumbing and electrical services company LMB Group won the public vote to pick up the Independent Business of the Year at the 2019 awards.

The firm was established in 2007 and was originally based in a small office in Batley. Due to expansion they moved to larger premises in Cleckheaton and now have a team of 55 mechanical and electrical engineers working on various projects throughout the UK.

Managing director Andy Bean, who was also shortlisted in the Business Man of the Year category, picked up the award at hte ceremony, which was held at the Centenary Pavilion at Elland Road in Leeds.

LMB Group has grown from strength to strength over a 11-year period to its current turnover of £11 million.

The company ethos is to focus on ensuring they give clients dedication, satisfaction and professionalism from start through to completion on all the projects they undertake.

In addition, Sebastian Murphy, of Guiseley, took home the Young Achiever of the Year award.

Seb, was originally diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia at the age 3, and underwent three and a half years of gruelling chemotherapy treatment.

At Christmas 2017 the leukaemia returned, and he has failed to respond to treatment, bravely suffering the side effects of the many treatments he has had to endure.

The Yorkshire Choice Awards were founded by Melanie Malcolm and Jo Maltby.

They both saw an opportunity to recognise and raise the awareness of local people and independent businesses that are inspirational in their own way or in the markets they serve.

The YCA demonstrates that through adversity and courage, light can shine through in so many different ways and give the deserving nominees, finalists and winners the exposure that is so deserving.

Ms Maltby said: “In the last four years, The Yorkshire Choice Awards has grown considerably, way beyond anything Mel and myself expected and we are thrilled that the event is now the pedestal to celebrate the very best of Yorkshire businesses and residents."

Ms Malcolm added: “We must remember that the YCA is also a vehicle for supporting charities and this year we partnered with Bethany’s Smile.

"It helps support the care of children with life limiting and threatening illnesses and we are hoping to raise a significant amount of support to go towards Smile Cottage – which will be a place where families can go to spend quality time with those they love while they are faced and coming to terms with the distressing news of life expectancy.”

Planning is already underway for the 2020 YCAs.
